BJP’s Tejasvi Surya continues to lead, secures 3.3 lakh votes
BJP’s Tejasvi Surya continued to lead in Bengaluru South with as many as 3,30,827 votes, while Congress party’s Soumya Reddy trailed behind, securing 1,58,736 votes in total, as of 11:30 am, according to the ECI.

BJP candidate from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning and said, “This seems to be a historic electoral mandate that people of India have given in favour of PM Narendra Modi and the BJP. The INDI alliance has been a conglomeration of corrupt, caste-based communal entities… This reflects the majority of the Indian electorate, who have rejected the economic vision of the Congress and the INDI alliance. The freebie politics which would have been a sure-shot economic disaster for the country has been rejected.”

How did Bengaluru South vote in the past?
Bengaluru South has been a bastion of the BJP as it has been winning there since 1996. BJP stalwart leader and former union minister Anant Kumar won from Bengaluru South five consecutive times, and he became a union minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinets. After the death of Anant Kumar in 2018, the BJP fielded Tejasvi Surya in 2019. Tejasvi Suya had taken on BK Hariprasad of Congress in 2019 and won with a majority of more than three lakh votes.
